Cittadinanza

Our History

 

1999
Cittadinanza is founded in Rimini by 5 charter-members, on the initiative of its present President Maurizio Focchi, whit the aim of promoting mental health projects in low income countries.

 

2000
Start of the collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) – Department of Mental Health – Geneva.
Start of a project in India, providing assistance to adults suffering from mental disorders and their families, in cooperation with Indian Ngo SCARF and Richmond Fellowship Ngo.

 

2001
Collaboration with WHO on ‘ATLAS Project’, dedicated to the relevant mental health resources available in 192 countries.

 

2002
Cittadinanza widens its mission to children and adolescents with mental and neuropsychiatric disorders.
Start of a Project in Serbia providing assistance to children and adolescents, in cooperation with the Serbian Ministry of Social Affairs.

 

2003
Start of our activities in Albania, in cooperation with Albanian Foundation Shen Asti, focusing on the provision – in Italy – of specific training on mental health and immigration for specialized national personnel.

 

2004
Widening of Cittadinanza’s membership and development of awareness-promotion activities at local level.
Start of a second project in India, in Vellore, where support is provided to the ‘day-center’ Best New Life Shelter for children with neuropsychiatric disabilities.

 

2005
Consolidation of Cittadinanza’s structure and enlargement of its activities.

 

2006
Cittadinanza organizes in Italy, in collaboration with WHO, a professional training course on ‘International Cooperation in Mental Helath’.
Development of Cittadinanza’s communication tools and activities.
Opening of new operational HQ.
Further widening of Cittadinanza’s membership.

 

2007
New intervention in Albania.
Agreement with WHO for the organization of International Technical Consultations (ITCs) on mental health.
Implementation of an assessment project in Serbia in order to streamline Cittadinanza’s interventions in the country.
Ad hoc fund-raising initiatives activated with private donors, hotels and companies at local level.

 

2008
Cittadinanza organizes in Rimini the first International Technical Counsultation WHO/AIMS “Strenghtening the Mental Health Systems in Low and Middle Income Countries”.
